06.13.2015: Stop #2 -- Upper/Lower Falls - Canyon Village

Best stop of the day... the waterfalls! Off the main road was a turnoff pointing us towards the Upper & Lower Falls.  We headed that way, including the fishing bridge...which wasn't spectacular & literally just a bridge!  We made a few lookout stops on the way, until we found this one...with the best views!  We could see people on the other side as well, which would have been a cool place to look out from too as it was lower in elevation...but this was pretty amazing!  After digging through some old boxes looking for different photos, I came across some pics of our trip here some 20 years ago...and found pictures of the Upper Falls...from what looked like the same vantage points.  Pretty cool!

At this stop, we also found this huge nest of birds on top of this giant rock formation....obviously not accessible by humans.  After watching these birds for a while, we could tell there were baby birds in the nest too.  Some of us (them) SWORE that these were bald eagles.  They were a little white-ish on the head.  Not being bird people, we could not argue the theory with anything else, so we went with the fact that they were bald eagles.  (Unfortunately, when we got back to camp and met up with Sue, JC and Holly, JC informed us that these were more certainly NOT bald eagles, but actually ospreys.  (basically pigeons of the north!)  HAHAHA!!!  So disappointing....we will continue to tell the story of the beautiful bald eagles we found, and watching them feed their babies.

After getting our fill of the falls, and the bald eagles, we headed over to Canyon Village for some lunch and a visit to the gift shop.  The lunch in the little cafeteria restaurant they had was horrible.  But we were starved so we ate it anyways.  While in the gift shop, we al dispersed to look for trinkets.  Avery immediately gravitated towards Mom.  She knows whose card works best in these stores! Haha!  Alisa and I joked around that as soon as we walked in, Avery took one look around and said "Where's Grandma!?"  Stuck by her side the rest of the visit in the gift shop :)

This is also where Dad tried to steal a little kid.  Haha!!  Just kidding.  But he did see a little boy that looked like Andrew from the back & saw him wandering around.  He walked over & put his hands on his shoulders & started talking to him & steering him towards the exits.  The kid freaked out and turned around scared...then ran off.  Then Dad freaked out and turned around scared.  Haha!  Good thing the kids parents didn't see that!!  Dad felt so bad!  Kinda funny.

Bald eagles?!?!  Haha...ummmm...no, its an osprey!

So pretty!
