Rise & shine folks!!! It is 5am and time to hit the road...for the next 18 hours. Get your drinks, snacks, coloring books, Brent's ipod playlist, and an extra serving of patience and sanity! Leave your electronics at home...this is a Durbin camping trip...aka, you enjoy the wilderness, and the sights and sounds and smells, and talk to the people sitting next to you. I know it's odd in today's day & age, but it is every bit enforced in this family. It is a LONG road trip, but when will you get to do it again. So appreciate your surroundings and take in these absolutely beautiful states we are driving through. Or just take a nap :)
FYI - it turned out to be a great road trip for the kids. They talked the ENTIRE time, sans a few naps here & there. They really did have a blast though and completely entertained themselves the entire time. We didn't hear "I'm bored" once. Mainly because they knew the response they would get from the rest of the car...but still. They were all troopers...especially Avery. More on that one later :)
Load um up!!!
I think these fools were asleep in the back row before we even hit the freeway! They weren't fully awake yet from the early rise & shine.

Lake Powell...too bad we didn't bring the boat! |

My goal was to capture all the state signs....as Brent drove by them at 90 mph. TOTAL FAIL.
Got this one though! |

Random town we drove thru near Bryce Canyon where we stopped to have lunch. It just so happened to start POURING on us as we ate at this cute (scary) park, and it was windy & freezing!! Not the 99 degrees as when we left Mesa this am. I had made some grinders/sandwiches, and we had chips & fruits, etc...
Didn't want to have to stop-stop anywhere. Brent was on a mission!!! |
