11.12.2018: Amwaj Islands

After recovering for our major hangry status, we were ready for our next exploration destination.  We headed over to the Amwaj Islands.  This was a little suburb of the main city, u to the north east of the country.  You could tell it was a little higher class area, in the area.  There were shops, restaurants, and clubs surrounding the waterway.  It was actually very developed and really beautiful! We found a little shop/restaurant called The Tea Club. It was gorgeous inside!! We decided to have us a spot of tea since we were there.  Since we aren't used to fancy Tea Clubs, or were members of the club, we were not welcomed very warmly.  However, we sat, and ordered some tea anyways!! We opted for a sharing basic tea.  When they brought out the display of pots, cups, saucers, and pink sugar shaker, we had no idea what to do.  Eventually, we realized that the pretty pink sugar was actually a timer.  When the sat ran out, our tea in the pot was ready for us  Hmmm, complicated.  So we laughed, people watched, put our pinkys in the air and drank tea.  It was a pretty amazing place to people watch though.  The dynamics between men & women, kids and their parents, workers and guests.....so unusual and different than what we are used to.  I am always open to learning about new cultures, and this is one that I am definitely glad I was not born into!

We were the only non-locals in the entire area.  We watched people come & go, walk along the water, eat dinner, go shopping....all the while feeling very out of place.  This is definitely not a usual tourist destination, or ex-pat destination.  It was fun though exploring where the locals of the Amwaj Island hang out!

Before we left, we found a Starbucks along the waterway, so we HAD to get one!  Our first in Bahrain.  It was very different than our usual Starbucks, but it was familiar enough.  We finished up our drinks and headed back to our car to explore some more!

Tea time!

Someone thought this pink stuff was sugar or salt :)
