10.19.2015: Day 1 of Seoul Exploring

Vince and Mark headed off to the show to setup the booth this morning, and I hit the streets to go exploring!  Started the day off with an amazing breakfast buffet in the hotel which had a little of everything and was delicious!  Definitely filled up so I would have to eat again until later.

My first stop was the bank.  Needed to do a little currency exchange.  I read that you get better rates if you just wait until you get there, so I did.  Seems like nothing really opens there until 9am - at least in the district we were in.  So, I got some won and headed for my next stop!

Next stop was Starbucks...for 2 reasons.  1 - I needed more coffee and couldn't wait to see if it was the same.  And 2 - to try to buy our sbucks "where you are" mug.   Semi-unsuccessful on both.  They didn't have my fav drink (peppermint mocha) OR our mug.  So I got something else, which just isn't the same for me, but oh well.  It was still cool sitting there people watching.

After sbucks, I hit the road again...this time for a 12 mile walking tour of our side of the city.  I was on a mission to find a shopping area so headed the direction I thought I could find one.  No luck, however I did get to see a lot of awesome sites and was able to find my way around pretty well.  Also found that the people here are very nice and willing to try to communicate with me even though I couldn't speak or understand a bit of Korean.  The city is super clean and green as well!  I was thoroughly impressed with everything I saw!  Many of the side streets are narrow & hilly...reminiscent of parts of San Francisco.

From our room, we could see this HUGE Catholic/Christian looking church.  I was determined to find it, but couldn't figure out what it was or how to look it up on mapquest.  So I just wandered in the general direction it seemed to be in.  Eventually I found it off some back street.  Still couldn't really figure out what it was since everything was in Korean symbols and it was closed.  There were signs on the doors that made me assume it was more like a theater.  But who knows?! Never did figure it out!!  It was really pretty though!

Ahhhh...my fist sbucks!!

Pastry shops everywhere!!

These were so cute that I had to buy one! YUM!
