07.11.2014: The Launch, The Ride, The Beach

Rise and shine troopers!!!  It's an early morning at the Rio for those of us that have places to be! Christina, Alisa, Brianna and I headed off to the grocery store for the last minute essentials.  This is our yearly tradition...we get our list of "perishables" and hit the store on the way in.  Mom FINALLY relinquished control of this task years ago when she realized she couldn't be in 10 places at once.  I got the honor and have retained "control" of it ever since haha!  We wont discuss the few items I forget off the list once in a while...that SOME (er, Kenny) seem to think are intentional in order to sabotage the meal competition!! I never, never, never will hear the end of it.  Somehow, we always seem to get by though!

The rest of the crew heads to the dock to launch the boat, launch the skiis, and Mom checks in to get the houseboat.  This year Vince, Lex, Drake and Justice headed to Total Wine on the way in to pick up the 2 kegs we ordered.  Everyone has a job...and it better get done right...or you will hear about it!  It only usually takes a year for newbies to get the hang of the routine....it truly is a dance we do that is always seemless, flawless and non-chaotic.  For the amount of people, stuff, vehicles, etc that need to be managed, we do an amazing job.  We should give lessons on this stuff.  I guess it is years of training ... we have it down like no other!

Once we all showed, unloaded the cars, loaded the boat, launched the water toys, and the captains get their annual "instructions", and the 12 people that are actually legally "allowed" on the boat sign the sign-in sheet (minus the people hiding in the closets, bathroom, on the other boats and skiis)...we are off.

This year was MUCH different than last year's ride out!!!  It takes us about 3 hours to get to our site from the marina...depending on weather and water.  Scott usually has the task of driving us out and getting us to the beach.  After last year's hurricane that hit us on the way out, Brent decided he would hang around just in case Scott needed some backup too.   The Doo's always take turns coming up to the boat to on & off-load people. Gives the kids a break to get on the toys during the ride...for them, it's not as exciting as it is for the adults.  The adults organize the kitchen, arrange the bedrooms, bags & "stuff"....tap the keg, and drink.  Not sure if the scouts know that or not though?!  The scouts are the people in the ski boat and the Doo's that go find us the perfect beach.  They always do a great job, and I know it is stressful finding that perfect spot every year.  Glad I get to worry about hanging out on the houseboat & making sure all is well there instead!

Our ride out this year was fairly uneventful...perfect weather, great group, keg got tapped, bloody mary's were being prepped & drank, pics were being taken, kids were excited.  The scouts found a great beach right in the same area we always camp...but looked SOOOOO different with the water levels.  40 feet is a LOT.  So sad.  This spot was basically underwater last year....  :(
