On my way back to Ramstein, there was one more Burg that I wanted to check out. Another great amazing hike. Although this time the road was paved for the hike - you just couldn't drive on it. I saw another guy on the trail, but he was running - up & down the hill. I was walking, like a normal person. This old burg was under renovation. I couldn't tell from the signs, but looked like it was being refurbished to prevent falling bricks & such. The castle was completed in 1156AD and was the home to the family of the Knight of the area. The castle stayed in the family of the von Hohneneckens until around 1689 when it was blown up by the French in a war.
There is remnants of an old chapel on the side of the church. It would be absolute AMAZING location for a wedding at sunset. The sun was setting thru the holes in the wall which made it almost magical and surreal. Beautiful location!!!
On the way back down, I found some super cool mushrooms growing along the trail. Looked like something that should have been in Alice in Wonderland or something. Of course, I didn't touch it - just photographed it!
Another Burg in the books!!!
