04.16.2014: Napa Wine Tasting!

Today was all-day wine tasting!!!!  Fully taking advantage of the Napa experience :)

Well, we actually worked a little in the morning, then headed out for some amazing wine experiences. We had to start the day at Darioush.  Yes, an all around amazing event.  The wine, the grounds, the wine room, the people, the wine...the wine room!!!  Yes, all of it was memorable.  We asked to go down to the owners private cellar...which was ridiculous.  His collection was amazing,....and the room actually connected to his house...which was cool in itself.  I didn't take pics down there, even though Vince wanted me to!  We ended up buying a few bottles here and signing up for their wine club.  Can't wait until November!!!

After Darioush, we moved on to James Cole...on recommendation of our wine girl.  It was a cute little boutique winery that was fairly new in the area.  The property & vines were old, but relatively new owners.  Actually had a great time here...even though it was super small and super "unique".

After James Cole we moved on to Regusci.  This place was VERY interesting!!!  Zac Brown & his whole band were here the week before.  It was Zac's birthday and they had a show in San Fran.  After the show, they came here and ended up putting on an all-night-long show for their family & friends out on the back patio.  His dad got up and gave a speech that had the entire crowd in tears.  It was AWESOME hearing the stories.  Our wine guy said he left at 5am, and they were still going strong.    So bummed we were just a week late!  That would have been a great night to have been there!!

After Reugsci, we moved up the street to the Miner Family Vineyards.  I have been "obsessed" with the Miner family wines for quite a while so could not wait to get here and experience their "story"!!  It is fairly production, but seemed like it was still a family affair.  So glad we went...so disappointed!!!  Not only do they not actually grow any of their own grapes, their story is so "production".  Rich guy from silicon valley bought the property & production as a side business.  No blood, sweat & tears here.  Hired out the help & operate from the comfort of his home.  UGH!!  No street cred at all from me.  I actually took the wine girl to school on where "their grapes" come from!!!  It was pretty funny.  I know the best Pinot grapes in Cali...and she tried to front and say their were "theirs".  Sorry dear, can't pull that one on me.  Oh yea, and we just came from Monterey where those exact grapes are actually grown!!  All real wine people know about the "Gary's" pinot grapes.  Come on....  So glad we went, but so glad to not to have to spend my money on their wines anymore!!  Kinda a good/interesting end to a great day!

We ended up back in our room, recovering & getting ready for dinner.  We wanted something super casual...and I found a place in "old town" Napa which is where more of the locals go.  Less fancy.  They had a "Filippi's Pizza Grotto" down there!!  Are you kidding me...a San Diego staple!!  Had to go.....so that is how we ended the night...at my fav SD pizza place!  Then.....back at the hotel bar with our bartender buddy who gave us quite a few pours "on the house"!!  Also ended up meeting some very interesting people!!
