We had been looking forward to today for weeks! This was the one tour we booked ahead of time, and knew that no matter what, we were going on this one even if we don't do anything else!! We had to wake up super early, which I wasn't excited about, but oh well. We took to the s-bahn down to the main train station where we hopped on our tour bus for the day! We were (of course) the first ones there, so we got to sit in the very front of the bus haha! Normally I wouldn't be a fan of this, but of course, this is where the best views are, we get to talk to the tour guide, and make friends with the bus driver...who brought an ice chest full of beer, wine and champagne! Fun stuff! Clarification - the booze wasn't for him while he was driving - it was for us! :)
Our first stop on the tour today was King Ludwig II's final home in the Bavarian countryside, and it was also considered his hunting lodge. It was named Linderhoff and was one of his more extravagant interior homes with gold accents everywhere. Pretty sure we don't have any hunting lodges like this in America - and if we did, I am definitely taking up hunting!!
It was a little disappointing because they had just covered up all the beautiful statues as winter is coming. They cover them every year to preserve them from the harsh elements of winter. SO, we didn't get to see them :( But we did get to see the expansive grounds and walk around those a little bit, as well as go on the tour of the inside of the castle (er, hunting lodge). Unfortunately, we couldn't take pictures inside, so I don't have any. The tour was interesting though - we had a very eclectic group of people that felt free to talk over the tour guide, give their own versions of what the history of the castle and the king were, etc. So, we got a little more than we paid for, but that's what makes travel interesting.
On to the next stop.....
