10.06.2012: Huntin' and Shootin' and Forest Walks

So since this is state land or whatever, it's not quite legal to shoot (or hunt) on it.  ie...no discharging of firearms.  However, we only follow some rules, not all of them.  So we went for a little forest walk waaaaay out of the campground and into the wilderness so the kids could shoot their BB guns.

This was the only real huntin' that went on today.  Kaizen saw a squirrel and chased it all over the forest and up this tree....WAY up this tree!!  Then she sat at the bottom of the tree waiting for it to come back down. So maybe not hunting...but more like tracking her prey.  Anyways, it kept her entertained while the kiddos were shootin'

10.06.2012: We Gonna Go Catch Us Some Fish

After breakfast, most of the group headed off to the lake to do some fishing.  Mom stayed behind at the campsite with Avery and the pups.  Avery was just about ready for her nap, so Mom volunteered to hangout with her while the rest of us tried to go catch us some fishes.  We actually had pretty good luck.  We caught a few of them...I think all the kids got to reel in at least one apiece.  We didn't keep any because they were semi-small...but the event was fun in iteself.  The kids didn't have too much patience for just sitting there & fishing...so they found other things to amuse themselves with while the adults manned the poles (until a fish bit, then they couldn't wait to take over!)  We stayed out there for a few hours and had a great time.  But now time to head back to camp for some more wilderness adventures!

10.06.2012: Go Morning Sunshines!!!

Everyone seemed to get up pretty early this morning.  The mornings & nights are my favorite times of camping.  I love the mornings (and I am not a morning person!!!)...campfire, "camping coffee", breakfast over the stove....I swear coffee tastes soooo good out here!!!  It probably isn't, as sometimes it is chewable :)  But yum, yum...the best thing to look forward to after a rough night sleep in the tent!  Brent & Alisa made a great chorizo & egg burrito breakfast....and the kids got right to playing!

Yes, Avery still needed her flashlight...

10.05.2012: Aspen Woods Camping Weekend

The group headed up to Aspen Woods Campground for the weekend to camp and enjoy some of the great outdoors.  Vince and I got up there first, then Brent & Alisa, then a couple hours later Mom, Dad and Scott showed up from CA.  Kenny was going to join us tomorrow.  We got all our tents setup and were ready for some R&R!!!

Most of the campground was closed and we got a great spot near the back that backed up to the woods.  There weren't many people around us, and we felt pretty secluded.  So secluded that a couple elk came right up to us.  There were even a few little babies there.  They looked like they were searching for food.  The kids wanted to get up close....but at the same time wanted to keep their distance!  The boys were a little more brave than Nana.  She was kinda worried they would come over too close :) Some other people from a couple campsites away thought the eld were cute too, and one of them looked like he was going to go try to pet them.  I had my video camera ready, just in case. I was ready for a "When Animals Attack" moment!  Stupid people....but they do provide good entertainment for the rest of us!

Setting up the camp

Not sure why Piggy and Nana are holding their hands like that.  Maybe I caught them praying that the elk keep their distance?

Avery wanted to get closer with the other kids, but Alisa kept her distance!

I didn't get many pics after the setup and elk.  Vince and I brought a big pot of chili and we ate chili, and chili dogs for dinner.  After dinner, Brent got a huge bonfire going and we sat around and chatted.  The kids are always the ones to crash out first.  They all are so ready for early bedtime when we camp.  Not sure if they wear themselves out during the day and are just exhausted....or if they don't like the sounds of the forest at night & its easier to just go to sleep!  Who knows!  Either way, they are always begging to go to sleep early!
