The group headed up to Aspen Woods Campground for the weekend to camp and enjoy some of the great outdoors. Vince and I got up there first, then Brent & Alisa, then a couple hours later Mom, Dad and Scott showed up from CA. Kenny was going to join us tomorrow. We got all our tents setup and were ready for some R&R!!!
Most of the campground was closed and we got a great spot near the back that backed up to the woods. There weren't many people around us, and we felt pretty secluded. So secluded that a couple elk came right up to us. There were even a few little babies there. They looked like they were searching for food. The kids wanted to get up close....but at the same time wanted to keep their distance! The boys were a little more brave than Nana. She was kinda worried they would come over too close :) Some other people from a couple campsites away thought the eld were cute too, and one of them looked like he was going to go try to pet them. I had my video camera ready, just in case. I was ready for a "When Animals Attack" moment! Stupid people....but they do provide good entertainment for the rest of us!
Setting up the camp
Not sure why Piggy and Nana are holding their hands like that. Maybe I caught them praying that the elk keep their distance?
Avery wanted to get closer with the other kids, but Alisa kept her distance!
I didn't get many pics after the setup and elk. Vince and I brought a big pot of chili and we ate chili, and chili dogs for dinner. After dinner, Brent got a huge bonfire going and we sat around and chatted. The kids are always the ones to crash out first. They all are so ready for early bedtime when we camp. Not sure if they wear themselves out during the day and are just exhausted....or if they don't like the sounds of the forest at night & its easier to just go to sleep! Who knows! Either way, they are always begging to go to sleep early!
