04.28.2018: A Day Along the Coast

Today we decided to head up the coast and spend the day with Christina & family!  We hadn't been out there in a long time and she just had knee surgery so wasn't getting around very well.  We drove up early in the morning after having some Albertos for breakfast.

It was so good spending the day with them.  We stopped and grabbed some lunch for the group on the way in, then headed to their house.  The kids were napping when we got in so we got to hang out with Christina & Lex and catch up with them for a while.  After the little ones woke up we sat on the front patio and lounged, drinking wine while the kids played.  It was a perfect day to be in CA and so fun catching up with the kids!

We headed back north in the evening and stopped off to get some great sunset pics in Solana Beach.  We drove by my old apt and toured around Solana Beach before heading back to Point Loma.  Remembering the good old days!

04.27.2018: Solare and Marc Broussard

A couple months ago we bought tickets to come see Marc Broussard here in San Diego.  He is one of our absolute favorites and have seen him a few times now.  Hoping it would fall on the same week as Warrior West (that we were out here for last week). But no such luck - we had to come back 2 weeks in a row. So here we are :)

Before the concert, we came over to Solare for dinner and drinks.  We sat out on the patio and had wine and apps and reminisced about our rehearsal dinner.

The concert was at the San Diego Symphony downtown.  It is a gorgeous venue!!  Definitely more "high class" than the usual places he plays here.  The crowd was ready for a dance party, not a sit-in-your-seat performance!  We had great seats right up front and had a blast watching the ushers try to contain the people who wanted to rush the stage and dance.  After intermission, Marc announced that the second half was going to be a little more lively, and gave the ushers the ok to leave the people alone! So we all ended up smashed up against the stage for the rest of the concert.  He always ends his shows with an a carpella version of Donny Hathaway's "For All We Know". It is AMAZING.

After the show, we stayed and got to talk to and hang out with Marc for a while.  He signed an album and took pics with us. Super nice guy, super appreciative of his fans!  What a wonderful night!!!

04.27.2018: San Diego, I Miss You More

As we pulled into San Diego, we were reminded how amazing it is here.  The weather was PERFECT. It was gorgeous.  We were staying out on the main base at Point Loma. We hadn't stayed out here before and were surprised how pretty it was!  The hotel was right on the point of the peninsula with beautiful views of downtown SD as well as the end of the point of Point Loma. We sat on the patio and watched the Navy ships come in, and sailboat head out.  Vince made friends with a needy little bird that came looking for food.  We had our door open and he kept trying to come in to visit.  Pretty funny little guy.  We had a great day just hanging out around base, exploring, and enjoying the views from our patio.

04.27.2018: Gramma & Papa Visit

Before hitting the road to San Diego, we made a quick visit to Gramma & Papa's gravesite. It had been a while since I'd been there but still knew where it was. We spent a few minutes cleaning around headstone, leaving some flowers and having a little chat.

04.26.2018: Oh Riverside, How I Miss Thee

Vince and I were headed back to San Diego for the weekend, and decided to drive out to Riverside for a night before.  We both miss going there, but it was weird heading into town and not going "home".  We did drive by the house though as we drove through.  It was sad to not be able to pull in the driveway, but we parked at the end of it and stalked.  The new owners redid the front, took out the plants, planters & trees.  You could tell that they were still in the middle of the remodel. Wish we could have seen the inside, but oh well.  We went to dinner at Anchos then stayed the night at March AFB.

04.22.2018: High School Football Mini-Combine

Today Drake had a mini-combine going on at his high school. A few of the new kids going into high school football came out to record their times and strength, jumping, etc.  It was fun watching all the events!!  Drake was showing ridiculously fast in the 40-yard dash.  It was impressive!

04.20.2018: Farwell Favorite City

When something works...…
So we went to Breakfast Republic again for breakfast today!  We stopped by another spot but it didn't look great so we passed and came back here.  Why risk it on brunch!? Its basically our favorite meal.

Our flight wasn't until this evening so we had the day to cruise around and explore a little.  It was a GORGEOUS day today!!!!  (Always seems to be when I'm back in town - like SD is just rubbing it in that I left)

Vince had never been up to Mt Soledad before so after all the dozens of times we had been ehre, I decided we should head up there.  It was so clear, you could see for miles.  It was chilly and windy though - so we just walked around the Veterans memorial up there for a bit, took some pics, then headed down!  We drove thru La Jolla, PB, and over to Sunset Cliffs.  I guess I had never taken him there either! Another amazing day but was invaded by some strange people.  So we headed back up & over the hill to the Point Loma area to go to Point Loma Seafood for a quick lunch before heading to the airport.  We walked around a bit there watching the fishermen get their gear & boats together as they were heading out on their 3 day weekend tours.  Pretty cool seeing them all load up!

Unable to avoid it any longer, we headed to the airport, and started our trek back to AZ.

Until next time....
