Today we spent the day out at Apache Lake, which is about an hr & half from Phoenix. We had never been boating there before, but Brent & family drove out to scout it out a couple weeks ago. It was kinda tricky getting there because the roads were dirt, and steep and and slippery! Not easy pulling boat & ski trailers.
Mom and Dad drove out Friday night with the boat, and Scott drove out on Thursday night with some dirt bikes. Scott & Brent are riding in the Barstow to Vegas ride at Thanksgiving so they need to get a few long practice rides in before then.. They went riding for most of the day on Friday. Prefect weekend to get a lake trip in as well!
So, Sat morning we headed to Brent's to meet up with the group and head out. We tried to get an early start so we could beat the impeding storm all the news stations were warning us about. Glad we decided to go anyways because we had absolutely perfect weather!
Our ride there was long and crazy. The last 20 mins or so of it was down this crazy & narrow dirt road along the side of the cliff of the lake. It is called the Apache Trail...and I couldn't imagine driving it when it is crowded or during bad weather! But we made it just fine and got the toys in the water and headed out in search of a beach.
Found a great little shady and sandy beach with plenty of room for all of us and the toys! Got super lucky, for sure! We had a GREAT day on the lake!! Kids had a blast as usual! The boys tubed for hours...and even the girls tubed too. Avery wanted to ride in the tube by herself, and did just great. She kept wanting to go faster too....little daredevil! Brent, Dad and I all skied. I was so glad because I didn't get a chance to ski on the houseboat trip, and was really bummed about it. So, glad I got my second chance for the year. Andrew knee boarded and did great. The kids all played in the sand and we did a long ride down to the dam at the other end of the lake. We stayed most of the day until we started to hear thunder in the distance. Time to pack it up and make the trek back up & down the crazy dirt road!! Wonderful day trip to the lake, and so thankful we were able to do it!
