On Saturday, we had a little family gathering at Brent & Alisa's house for some delish dinner! When I got there, I got to hold Avery...actually I stole her from someone I'm sure, and after entertaining us for a while, she fell asleep clutching my arm. It was so cute & I loved it....so wouldn't put her down. :) So, she took her whole nap in my arms. I needed a long straw for my champagne....as both my hands were tied up. Luckily Vince was there to help me drink & gave me sips every once in a while. The kids were hilarious playing the MJ Wii....there are only 2 controllers, but all 4 of them were up there doing the dances. It was so cute!

07.20.2011: A Long Drive Home, Followed With A Long Evening in the ER
During a very long drive home to Arizona from Newport Beach, Vince's ankle/foot slowing began to swell up to monster proportions....for him! By the time we made it back to Scottsdale, he was in intense pain and could not walk on his right foot.....so we headed over to the ER. They did some xrays and determined that he broke his talus. No tendon damage, which the doc said he was VERY lucky for! The talus is the bone that connects the foot & ankle. It basically controls all the movement of the foot. So, they outfitted him with a big huge walking boot, gave him some meds, and told him to ice it, elevate it, follow up with a foot surgeon, and STAY OFF OF IT! However, if you know Vince, you know that didn't last long. He milked as much sympathy from me as he could though....which, if you know me, that didn't last long either ;) Haha!!
The pictures really don't do his swollenness justice....his ankle was HUGE!!! I just couldn't capture it all.

Wrapping up the night with....a kabob party! Christina, Lex, VJ & Sarah made some amazing chicken, shrimp and lamb kabobs!! As well as some spicy sausage...and corm on the cob. YUUMMMM!!!! What a way to end an amazing day. By the end of the night, we were all very, very DONE! Perfect last night in Cali.....and with the Hearn family! Vince was in heaven after a few days with all his kiddos together! We definitely need to do it more often!

07.19.2011: Frollocking on the Beach
After our day on the Duffy, we hit the beach for some sun & fun. The kids all played soccer in the sand, Vince broke his ankle. Yes, broke his ankle. Although he didn't realize it at the time and kept playing and running around, he paid for it later. Good thing he was a few drinks in and didn't really feel much. And it does explain the picture of him laying in the waves....unless the boys were all checking the prop? ;) I would rather not know. We had a GREAT time spending the rest of the afternoon watching the waves, soaking up the sun, and just relaxing. It was a blast watching them all play soccer too :)

07.19.2011: Living the Dream....Duffy Style
Ahhhhh...what's better than waking up in the morning to ocean waves, a clear beautiful day and getting ready to go yachting in the bay?? Not much that I can think of. Unless it is your yacht, and your multi-million dollar beach house, and you have nothing better to do than cruise the bay and drink Champagne on a Tuesday morning. Yes, the FUN STARTS HERE NOW.
Christina & Lex arranged for us to rent a Duffy for the day. These wonderful little vessels are the hidden gems of Newport! Lived in SoCal my whole life, and I had never been on one, or known you could rent one. I have been missing out on life! These little boats are battery/electric powered and last for a few hours at at time to allow you to cruise around the bay. The Newport bay has a huge canal system that gets you all around the whole area via waterways. Some of the restaurants along the bay have docks where you can stop & use the bathrooms, eat, or stock up on drinks. Drake was the captain and drove us all over the place...mainly because he was the only one not drinking :) Also because he insisted that he be the "captain". He did a great job! We planned for and brought a boatload (literally!) of drinks and food. We had an amazing spread of delicious snacks that lasted us all day. We even had some champagne soaked broccoli (unintentional, however not bad). We also had a cooler full of champagne, wine, waters, etc. We had unlimited playlists of music, and could have stayed out there all day...but the battery was almost done so we headed back to the dock! We did cruise the whole bay though, taking in the views of the amazing homes and yachts docked in front of them. Where do people get his kind of money?! We can dream....and dream we did.
Seriously for anyone looking for something fun to do in Newport Beach for a day, consider renting a Duffy!! They are amazing and cannot wait to be able to do it again!!! Definitely come prepared with your own food & drinks though...it absolutely makes the trip!

07.18.2011: Catching Some Waves, Dude
We headed back to Christina's house after experiencing the magic of K'ya. While still in our food coma's the boys decided they wanted to go catch some last minute waves before sunset. Drake wanted to join them on his boogie board too. Christina and I went out to watch them while Sarah & Paisley napped. Vince was pretty tired too, so he relaxed at the house. Watching the "surfers" was pretty entertaining!! Kelly Slater, they were not....however they both gave it a pretty good attempt! It was actually hilarious watching them!!! They were both first-timers, only having attempted it for the first time this week. Christina had taken a lesson last year, and tried to verbally guide them thru how to do it, but no luck. They both semi-got up a few times, but actually riding a wave, not really. Surfing is not easy though, so maybe just a little more practice! Great evening to be on the beach though. The water was warm(ish), the weather was perfect....and the sunset was amazing!!! Gorgeous night!!!
