12.11.2018: Temple Square

I spent the day today exploring Temple Square.  I have so many friends that are Mormon, but don't know a lot of details about the religion itself - besides all the rules of things they can't do.  Since I've been learning about so many religions in my travels recently, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to learn about LDS. Besides, Temple Square has some gorgeous architecture!!!  And with it being Christmas season, it was very well decorated.

I went into the visitor center (one of them) to start the adventure.  I was wandering around, reading about the history of the religion, going through the museum, etc.  I hadn't really talked to anyone yet (as I was the only one in the entire building besides a handful of workers/volunteers), but as I was heading out, one of the volunteers asked me if I had been upstairs to see the Christus.  I said no, but headed up there.  AMAZING.  It was a giant statue of Jesus.  I was the only one up there so sat on a bench and just took it all in.  It was very spiritual and slightly surreal feeling.  I definitely felt special having this moment all to myself.  (At the time, I had absolutely NO idea how rare this was!!!  Later I found out that there is almost never a time where you get this to yourself - especially this time of year).  After walking around a little more, I headed back outside to check out the buildings.  I couldn't go in the main temple, as it is only open to very few people, and only Mormons.  But all the other buildings were beautiful.  I had just about finished my self tour, when I was approached by a girl who gave me a pamphlet and told me about a free organ concert that happens at noon everyday.  It is essentially a "sound check" or practice concert they have daily for whoever is performing that week.  It was just about noon, so I headed in and found a seat.  There were only a handful of others in there and we enjoyed an amazing concert! The sound of the organ was unreal!

After my tour of Temple Square, I walked around and went in some of the museums surrounding the area.  There were a ton of them!
